Community Colleges

Citrus College and Mount San Antonio College have designed water technology programs to prepare students for employment in the public drinking water industry and to qualify water industry professionals for a more responsible position within the industry. The courses also help prepare individuals for the State of California Department of Public Health Water Treatment Operator and Water Distribution Operator exams.

State Resources

In 2001, the State of California Department of Public Health established the Operator Certification Program to include both Water Treatment Operator certifications and Water Distribution Operator certifications. Most drinking water employment positions, especially those designated to work with treatment and distribution system operations, require a certain level of certification with the State Water Resources Control Board.
